1. Having an option for online sessions can save you money and headaches.

I cannot tell you how many times a client has had to cancel because of car issues, not being able to find a babysitter, having a little cold and you don’t want to get the therapist sick, or not being able to physically make it in time for the appointment.  In these cases, the client is often responsible for the full fee because they haven’t provided 24 hours’ notice for their cancellation.  When your therapist offers online sessions, you don’t have to pay for a session that you can’t attend because you can hop online and have your session.

2. Another reason it can be helpful for a therapist to offer online sessions is your own mobility.

You may feel like you don’t need to worry if your EMDR therapist offers online sessions.  Perhaps you are set in your location and don’t plan to move, but things change.  If you get a job offer an hour away, do you change therapist’s midway? If your therapist offers online sessions, then you don’t have to switch as long as you stay within the jurisdiction of their license.

3. Walking into a therapist office can be hard.

Will someone see you? Will you be able to find it? Will you hit traffic? Will there be parking available? What if you run into someone you know in the waiting room? Having sessions from the comfort of your own home oftentimes allows people to be more relaxed and more engaged in therapy.
